Beyond Modernism

Thinking in Kantian terms most academic disciplines have a hypothetical imperative.  ‘If you want to do that, you must do this…’.  Say keep your country solvent, avoid wars or famine, build the internet.

Philosophy has potential, following a search for the good life, to say ‘you must …’ A categorical imperative.  Some things are wrong (Thou shalt not), Some right (Love thy neighbour).  Do the majority of our activities, that don’t fall into either class, just not matter?

Is understanding ‘everything’ an end, or a means to something more?
